Assetto Corsa EVO's VR update is a significant step forward, but it still has room for improvement. The game's developers, Kunos, have introduced a foveated rendering option that enhances performance and stability, particularly for VR users. This feature reduces the clarity of the surrounding VR image while maintaining the fidelity of the area players focus on, resulting in smoother frame rates. Additionally, a new pixel density option offers greater resolution tunability, allowing players to balance performance and visual quality. However, the in-headset experience could be further enhanced. For instance, the controls settings menu lacks VR-specific terminology, making it confusing for VR users. The UI menu, on the other hand, has a plethora of VR-specific settings, which seems counterintuitive. The game also struggled with my Pimax Crystal Light headset, highlighting the need for better compatibility. Despite these issues, the VR update is a welcome improvement, but Kunos should focus on refining the VR experience to create a truly bug-free and immersive environment. The update also introduces the Kyalami circuit and three new cars, adding to the game's content. However, the VR experience remains a work in progress, and further refinements are needed to create a seamless and enjoyable VR racing experience.
